Young Guns: hundreds of filmmakers attended the event in Brick Lane @ Café 1001

Affirming our commitment to the careers of young filmmakers, this summer,
Userfarm held an evening for up-and- coming talent with the grass-roots film
cooperative, Shorts on Tap.

For the “Young Guns” evening at the cool Cafe 1001 in Brick Lane, young
filmmakers from the UK, France, Italy and as far afield as California got together
for an evening of music, mingling, mentoring and movies.

The influential filmmaking blogger Simon Cade (@DSLRGuide) headlined the
evening with advice for young filmmakers. And we were treated to a Shorts on
Tap selection of short films from global entrants.

The crowd also watched selections from Userfarm’s remarkable VERTICAL video
project, including short films selected for showcasing during the Cannes Film
Festival.

Young filmmakers were given advice on some of the new routes to creative
success, especially those that do not involve the traditional production
company/studio/agency sructures. We also heard from filmmakers on some of
the tricks of the trade, especially how to film quality on a low budget.

And with examples of videos for good causes like Parkinson’s Research and
WWF, as well as for pure, unlimited creativity, we saw how young filmmakers
can, and do, change the world.
